It's been quite a week in Troy! Trey and Hunter have been rushing face. They're putting in the time and making connections, one young man a time.
While large house-based rush events still occur on RPI's campus, their effectiveness has dwindled over the years due to changing social mores and habits held by younger generations.
Nobody doubts the impact a spectacle like a well run Upsilon car bash or slip 'n' slide can have, but events like that will have to wait until the house can sustain an active brotherhood.
Trey and Hunter started with outreach to local sororities that historically have had close ties to Delts, AGD and Alpha Phi. The consultants are making arrangements with the sororities to sponsor Delts referral events. We'll keep you updated on their progress in the newsletter.
Trey and Hunter have developed a close connection with a handful of young men. If the consultants feel they have potential to be founding fathers of the new Upsilon Chapter, they will be given bids. The UAA will let you know when that happens.
Your donations to the Brotherhood Recruitment Fund are making an impact. Trey and Hunter have socialized this drive with all new candidates, and they are psyched! Trey gave the UAA some quick feedback during our last update meeting.

We are most definitely utilizing the scholarship opportunities that you guys are offering as a huge, if not the main, selling point thus far and interest is building for certain.

As for rushing RPI students to rebuild our chapter, the consultants took a lot of time to learn about the student populace and local culture. They're in constant contact with Mel Daley, Assistant Dean, Fraternity & Sorority Commons, to bounce ideas back and forth. Their preparation is sure to pay dividends.
Trey and Hunter also took lessons from the failed attempt to repopulate Upsilon two years ago. Back then, the consultants held events (which no one attended), and did not seek input from our alumni or RPI. Trey and Hunter are taking a very different approach--working closely with Upsilon Alumni and RPI. Instead of handing out fliers for events, they are prioritizing personal one-on-one connections. They've been taking recruits out to coffee, lunch, and promoting the shelter as an exciting opportunity.
Trey and Hunter have over 70 leads in chapter builder right now and they're reaching out to all of them. We're excited to keep you updated on their progress!
