Dear Brothers,
This month's newsletter includes a recap of Fall Alumni Weekend activities, with pictures of bros in-attendance and the current state of the Shelter (interior & exterior). Also included is a summary of the memorial services recently held to celebrate the life of brother Sean Wood (Doorlatch ’87) out in Colorado, attended by many 80’s era Upsilon Delts. Lastly, check out the deep-dive on the Upsilon Delts chapter house history provided by Louis Wetstein (’88)
Regarding the Upsilon Chapter rejuvenation efforts, the UAA is working closely with House Corp. leadership to follow-up this newsletter with an extensive update of the recently reworked Shelter renovation plan with RPI, and a detailed recruitment timeline for the next year. There will also be a virtual election held to vote in several prospective HC board members by the brotherhood at large.
The UAA is coordinating with House Corp and the National Fraternity to support the effort to bring a new class of Upsilon Delts to Sunset Terrace. We need your help. If you can be on campus at any point during the spring semester, and would like to help repopulate the chapter, please contact Jason. The UAA is your conduit to be formally included in the recruitment program. You'll be working directly with Fluke and the recruitment consultants. Be part of the reactivation legacy--Rush face!

Upsilon Delts Alumni Weekend Wrap-Up |
We lucked out with some decent weather throughout the weekend, permitting some golf, disc-golf, on-campus presence, and solid hangout time at the House. UAA and HC updates were provided post Saturday dinner, followed by some speakers being reverse-engineered to play tunes in the Party Room (thanks Tampoon!) as the BP tables were dusted off for a few hours before pub safety ultimately dropped by. All in all we had about 45 bros in attendance throughout the weekend!!
Check out pictures of those in attendance here, and pictures of the House in general here. Shout-out to all the following key dudes who helped sponsor AWE!! Thanks bros! |

Colorado Goodbye for a Legend: Memorial Services held for Sean Wood |
More than twenty Upsilon alumni, many with spouses and children, attended the celebration of Sean Wood’s life (Doorlatch ‘87) in Evergreen, CO the weekend of September 28th.
The weather was glorious. The aspen leaves were turning gold. Activities included a group hike through the stunning Golden State Canyon, evening reunion at New Terrain Brewery, Memorial Celebration at Clear Creek High School, reception and then after party back at the hotel. |
The weekend was bittersweet as it was electrifying to have so many 80’s era brothers together but difficult to overcome the enormous sense of loss. We honored Sean by sharing old stories and enjoying the beautiful Colorado summer weather over many beers.
At the Celebration of Life, Steve Brown (Opie '87) did Upsilon proud by sharing a wonderful eulogy of what Doorlatch meant to all of us as RPI brothers and alumni (click here to read). The Evergreen volunteer fire department gave a heart wrenching sign off by summoning all stations via CB and issuing a last emergency call for Sean praising his many contributions and support of his family.
|
We were all left in awe at the number of communities Sean impacted through his professional, volunteer, political and family contributions. He was a true legend inspiring us all to live our best lives. yf Brian Plackis Cheng (Waxoff '86) |
History of Upsilon Chapter Houses |
Louis Wetstein (Playtex '88) has assembled a meticulous history of the Upsilon Delts chapter houses at RPI, detailing the various locations the chapter occupied throughout the past 145 years. Much of this information Louis excavated from Delts National publications (Crescent and Rainbow) and local newspaper articles. In his own words: “For olde school insights on Upsilon’s 145th year on campus, I sat down with Father Time to get the stories and points from the beginning. When he wasn’t looking, I copied his scrapbook to the browsing library. That guy sure can talk, he kept asking for a hefty donation to the house and it felt so right.” Check it out here! |
